Making the most of 24 hours in Iceland – by Carly Ann Noah

Ever since I saw an image of the Blue Lagoon, located in Reykjavik, Iceland, I knew that it was a place that I had to visit at some point in my lifetime. When I came abroad, I hoped that a trip to Iceland would be in my travel itinerary, but wasn’t sure if other people would want to visit it as much as I did. Much to my sincere joy, the friends who I have made while at Queen Mary did, in fact, want to take a trip to the beautiful country of Iceland.

We booked our tickets in early January, in order to get the best deal on flights, and I had been looking forward to visiting Reykjavik for almost three months!

Here are some highlights of my time in Iceland:

The Blue Lagoon!

Obviously, the Blue Lagoon absolutely blew me away. It was breathtakingly beautiful, definitely one of the most scenic places I have ever seen in my entire life. I could have easily spent an entire day in the large geothermal bath, but we made the most out of the time that we allotted to the Lagoon.

Horseback Riding!
Along with the Blue Lagoon, we knew that Iceland was very well known for its scenic landscapes. The best way to see large rocks and snow-capped mountains? By horse, of course! We spent the afternoon of our full day in Iceland on an Icelandic
horse tour of the countryside. Fun fact: Icelandic people HATE the word, “pony” and although their horses are comparable to the size of American ponies, they are still referred to as “horses”.

Iceland was such a highlight of my time abroad – I really cannot wait to return to the country and take another swim in the Blue Lagoon!
